All of the background colors and shadows are, as you saw, from the original photo. I can't take credit for them! It was a fun challenge to try and reproduce them, though.
(I still can't stop staring at the original photo, oh man.)

I have fun drawing them! I figure, structures acquire some sort of personality based on their purpose, their design, and how people interact with them, so why not extend that into actually drawing humanizations of them?

And I love the lighting and the shadows from the buildings.
I love my spiffy markers! They're kind of expensive, but they're refillable, and they let me do things like this. I don't think this would've worked with the cheap markers.
Glad you like! I can't take credit for the lighting and shadows, really: nature did that, and the original photographer captured it. I just mimicked it.
I take it these are Copics your speaking of? I have a good amount of em too. I want to use them more. oAo;; But I must say you have incredible skills with them.
