Under the Rainbow by mitya Under the Rainbow by mitya
So, yesterday, this absolutely gorgeous photograph of the Bay Bridge under a full rainbow made its way around the parts of the internet I inhabit. Not ten tweets would go by without another link to this, so it seemed. And I kept clicking on it, because it's a freaking amazing photo of my favorite bridge.

Doing a drawing with my Bay Bridge personification in place of the actual structure just plain seemed like the obvious thing to do.

The original photograph is Lisa Bettany.
The drawing, and Bay Bridge!character, are mine.

And the prize for most epic background ever drawn goes too....

Seriously amazing details though, especially the clouds.

(....I can't stop looking at them...)

Thankee!

All of the background colors and shadows are, as you saw, from the original photo. I can't take credit for them! It was a fun challenge to try and reproduce them, though.

(I still can't stop staring at the original photo, oh man.)

Thank you so much!

I have fun drawing them! I figure, structures acquire some sort of personality based on their purpose, their design, and how people interact with them, so why not extend that into actually drawing humanizations of them?

D-dude.

Those clouds. And you did them in marker.
YOU HAVE SERIOUS SKILL WITH MARKERS SIR.

And I love the lighting and the shadows from the buildings.

Thank you!

I love my spiffy markers! They're kind of expensive, but they're refillable, and they let me do things like this. I don't think this would've worked with the cheap markers.

Glad you like! I can't take credit for the lighting and shadows, really: nature did that, and the original photographer captured it. I just mimicked it.

They are Copics, and they are AWESOME.
You should definitely use yours!

And thanks - I've been doing pretty much only marker stuff for a while, so I'd hope it'd have some payoff! I should really practice more with other media...

I've been having triuble drawing out linearts forever though ^^; I wish to bring them out more, but alas. I am a fail derp.

And don't worry! They most certainly have paid off for you! And yes, dipping your feet into different medias is a good idea to expand your knowledge of art!

Aaaall the waaaay!

Thank you so much - I'm glad you like it!
It was so much fun drawing Bay Bridge looking joyful and elated, especially since I have this tendency to draw him looking freaked out more often than not...

Thank you so much!
One of the things that was so striking to me about the photo was the greens and golds in the water, and all the different shades in the clouds. I'm glad you think I captured that here!
